The interplay between art and science defines the shape of this piece, it follows the outlines of a lake in a crater which was created in an eruption in Grímsvötn in 2004. The hole through the middle is shaped as volcanic materials which formed an island in the lake. On top of the structure there are screens, showing three different clips; footage from a research flight over the eruption site in Grímsvötn; bubbling mud springs at Vatnajökull; and the 2004 eruption, its progress and the process of change which starts when an eruption ends and other forces take over. Líndal herself participated in the flights and documented the process. Since 1997 she has participated in scientific expeditions up on Vatnajökull, documenting research work and collecting material for her art. This piece reflects her interest in the measuring of nature and scientific methods as a part of man´s deep-rooted desire to understand and analyse nature.
