Jóhann Eyfells

  • Year : 1969
  • Height : 185 cm
  • Width : 155 cm
  • Category : Skúlptúr
  • Sub-category : Steinskúlptúr

Location: Klambratún. This sculpture is equally an image of a cairn and of molten lava which solidifies and takes on the strangest shape. The idea of the cairn is a connection to the cairns which were signposts of old. Although Jóhann Eyfells has spent most of his working life abroad, this sculpture shows an obvious and interesting connection to Iceland. In the same year as Jóhann was appointed Professor of Sculpture in USA, the city of Reykjavík bought the Reykjavík Cairn from him and for a long time it was the only outdoor work of his to be owned by the city. His Receptual Cairn #7 at Sæbraut is based on a similar creation process, molten metal poured into a hole in the ground.
