Location: Mæðragarðurinn, Lækjargata. In 1924, Nína sent her sculpture Mother Love to an exhibition in Paris. She had to pay the last of her money to show the work. As a result of this exhibition, she was better able to promote herself and her art. The sculpture was not particularly unusual at the time, but beautifully shaped, unpretentious and sincere. The pillar underneath the work is relatively tall compared to the statue itself, which emphasises its delicacy. In 1926, a cast of the work was bought for Iceland and installed in the Maternal Park in Lækjargata, which was created especially for children and their mothers. In those days, the park was much bigger, and surrounded by a concrete wall. The sculpture was the first outdoor statue in Reykjavík which was not a memorial for or likeness of a particular individual.
