Steinunn Þórarinsdóttir

  • Year : 2000
  • Height : 8 cm
  • Width : 500 cm
  • Category : Skúlptúr
  • Sub-category : Umhverfislistaverk

Location: Ægissíða. This sculpture is located at the old fisherman’s shacks at Grímsstaðavör in Ægisíða. For a long time, there was an ongoing debate about whether the shacks should be demolished or protected, and finally the latter road was taken. This popular outdoors area is characterised by a mix of old and new, the old shacks represent old times and the abundance which resides in the ocean. Steinunn’s fish reference this abundance, it looks like the sea flooded the area between the shacks and the fish were washed ashore. The work is made from aluminium and stuck in the concrete, it is possible to walk on it. High Tide, Low Tide was part of the Icelandic Sculptors’ Society’s exhibition, The Coastline, a project which started in 1998 and culminated at the Reykjavík Arts Festival in 2000. It is dedicated to Captain Þórður Sigurðsson.
