Örn Þorsteinsson

  • Year : 1998
  • Height : 80 cm
  • Width : 130 cm
  • Category : Skúlptúr
  • Sub-category : Steinskúlptúr

Location: Nauthólsvík. This sculpture is an outdoor work which Örn created for the outdoor exhibition “The Coastline” which was held by the Icelandic Sculptors’ Society. The exhibition opened along Reykjavík’s southern coast in June 1998, and closed in autumn 2000. The Sled is created from granite from Greenland. In an interview with daily Morgunblaðið while the exhibition was open, Örn mentioned that The Sled was dedicated to the children who visit it. One of the main themes in his art is to get to know and connect with certain material, eliciting images which are hidden in it. Struggle with the form. The Sled is actually a piece of a large rock which Örn worked in on Greenland. From the same rock, he created another work, Rollercoaster, which is located in Greenland.
