Location: Ásmundarsafn sculpture garden. Moorland Flight is typical for the simplified form which Ásmundur sought during the 1930s. He gradually erases all details from the work until all that remains is what is needed to get its meaning across. The artwork’s overall look is simplified into one continuous mass which shows the mother leaning over the child, sheltering it from the wind. By simplification, it is not implied that Ásmundur’s work was developing towards the abstract art which came later on in his career, rather this was an attempt to find direct and clear imagery, without it being too realistic, like classic sculptures.
