Language becomes more than a means of communication in Jónsson’s work. He is particularly interested in the language acquisition of children and when adults adopt a new language. On his excursion into the world of language, Jónsson visualises it as a sculpture, or space. An artwork made from fibreboard, Fonts (1996), is a three dimensional look at the Icelandic letters Þ and Ð. The wordplay inherent in the title is obvious, the sculptures are based on letters and look like fountains.
