Location: Hljómskálagarðurinn. This is a dolerite sculpture which shows a man and a woman (or a boy and a girl) embracing. Originally, the sculpture was a gift to the National Theatre when it was opened in 1950, but it was installed in a closed hallway off the lobby, where nobody ever went. This caused a bit of a stir, as the artist was naturally not happy with the location. Eventually, the theatre returned the work to the city. Now, this low-key and affectionate statue stands in the women’s sculpture park, String of Pearls, by the Japanese cherry trees in the southwest corner of Hljómskálagarður Park.
