Location: Rauðarárstígur 10 Air balances a few key factors relating to the work of the versatile and progressive artist Jón Gunnar Árnason. He was a trained mechanic and his work Air from 1981 is a machine in the sense that not only is it a visual artwork, but it also has a functional meaning, as part of the ventilation system of the office building at Rauðarárstígur 25, which houses Iceland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The building was originally meant for The Icelandic Regional Development Institute, but at the start of the 1990s, the offices of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs were moved here from the Police Station at Hlemmur.
