Themes related to the environment, water and waterfalls, which have been under the threat of destruction by hydro-electric development in Iceland reflect Rúrí’s ongoing attention to preservation and change related to humans and nature. This work highlights the iconic figure Sigríður of Brattholt, a farmer’s daugther often referred to as Iceland’s first environmentalist, who campaigned to preserve the magnificent waterfall Gullfoss from being harnessed for hydropower in the early 20th century.
