In the winter of 1921-1922, Sveinsson carved a fountain in marble. It depicts a mermaid and Sveinsson made a few different versions of this creature during his years of study. They bear many similarities to water-nymphs that are common in Carl Milles´ fountains, who was Ásmundur's mentor.
