A man and a woman (played by Jacques Higelin and Dominique Grange) are confronted with a robotic universe from which they try to flee in vain. The film is a free, symbolic illustration of human alienation from its own production—the machine. Erró, who collaborated as an art director, not only created all the “mecha” decors and accessories for the film, but also played the role of a man-machine, wearing a specially designed body-mask and making a speech to a gathering of human-mechanical hybrids. He found the material and objects used for the props in flea markets and tips in Paris. The sculptors Philippe Hiquily, César and Jean Tinguely gave him technical advice on how to work with metal.
