Location: Guðbrandsgata/Birkimelur. This piece shows twenty flames, cast in bronze, rising from a natural rock. The rock comes from the coastline in the Westman Islands, where the artist has her study. This is a memorial for the collaboration of the 19 NATO nations and their historic meeting with Russia in Reykjavík in March 2002. It was created when the Cold War seemed to be over and NATO and Russia on the verge of making up after a long cool period since the end of WWII. However, in light of the events of recent years, it looks like a reconciliation is still far off.
