When Ágústsson first showed works made with canvas tape in the mid-1970s, he was considered innovative and his choice of material unusual. His works are in keeping with the methods of minimalism and concrete art, but the artist himself likened his works to a journey in which he sought the perfect form. Ágústsson was a versatile artist who was also involved in other forms of art, figurative painting and drawings, as well as doing research on the history of Icelandic buildings. He celebrated the integration of art forms, considering architecture to be the foundation of all art and culture.
