Location: Víkin, Grandagarður Worlds in a World consist of simple forms in granite, steel, concrete and aluminium. The work is five meters high, it was commissioned by CCP video games developer and given to the city of Reykjavík to mark the company’s ten year anniversary. The names of hundreds of thousands of players of the video game EVE Online are inscribed in tiny letters into aluminium sheets which cover the foundation of the piece. The artwork comprises three sculptures which stand on a pedestal, inscribed with the names, and another pedestal underneath the work itself. It is partly abstract, references a head, or the artist himself, and thus is a direct reference to Sigurður’s older work. The glass wall represents a mirror between the two worlds; the real world and virtual reality. The two worlds reflect each other and according to the artist, the mirror also reflects the world itself. The head sculpture is round but the virtual reality is based on straight lines. In 2023 in celebration of 20 years of Eve Online the pedestal was enlarged and more names of players added.
