Prayer, made in Reykjavík in 1956, is of iron and copper. Of the artist’s iron sculptures, this goes farthest in depicting objective reality. It represents a human figure at prayer, with arms uplifted toward heaven. The work focuses on the arms, which are precisely cut into the iron sheet, while the body and head are sketched by simple yet precise strokes. The sculpture expresses a powerful testimony: religious belief was always a major and sincere aspect of Ásmundur’s art.
