Location: Reykjavík Botanical Garden. This work is a bas-relief in concrete, in remembrance of Eiríkur Hjartarson, a great forestry enthusiast. The image, which is carved in stone, depicts Eiríkur at work planting trees. It is a present from Eiríkur’s children, but in 1929 he started planting trees on his farm which he called Laugardalur and the whole area is now named for. Eiríkur and his wife founded the Laugardalur Market Gardens, one of the first markets with garden plants in Reykjavík, and sold it to the city of Reykjavík in 1955.
