Location: Dvalarheimili aldraða Hrafnistu. This sculpture depicts Þorfinnur karlsefni, an Icelandic explorer, who was the first European to settle in North-America. Þorfinnur later moved to Iceland, where he lived with his wife Guðríður at his parent’s farm in Reynistaður, and later in Glaumbær until the end of their days. The idea for this work came about when Einar participated in a competition for a sculpture of Þorfinnur karlsefni which should be installed in an amusement park in Philadelphia, USA. He sent a drawing of his contribution to USA in 1916, which was unanimously chosen as winner, and Einar invited to travel west to work on the sculpture. The sculpture stands on a high pedestal, it depicts an upright Þorfinnur, looking into the distance.
